Barefoot Hike – Observation Point, Zion Canyon Utah

Observation Point in Zion National Park, Utah is a 6,500-foot elevation with panoramic views of the canyon. It’s a strenuous hike to the point, which is only accessible from East Zion. 

Trail information 

  • Trailhead: Weeping Rock Trailhead in Zion Canyon
  • Length: 8 miles roundtrip
  • Difficulty: Strenuous
  • Hazards: Cliff exposure
  • Best season: April–October

Getting there

  • You can take the Zion Canyon shuttle to the Weeping Rock trailhead 
  • You can also take a shuttle from Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort to the trailhead 

Safety tips 

  • In winter, wear yak-traks, spikes, or other safety measures on your shoes
  • Dress in layers
  • Avoid hiking in lightning
  • Practice Leave No Trace principles

Other considerations 

  • The trail is not good for people afraid of heights
  • The trail is closed due to a large rockfall
  • The parking lot at the trailhead fills up early
